Alexander Hamilton & Aaron Burr NYC Walking Tour: Historic Sites & the Duel
Step into the footsteps of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr on this immersive historical walking tour through Manhattan’s Greenwich Village and Financial District. From secret rendezvous to final farewells, uncover the real locations tied to America’s most infamous duel — and the complicated lives behind it.
We begin in the heart of Greenwich Village, where you'll visit the spot where Hamilton spent his final hours after the duel, just steps away from the home of his friend William Bayard. You’ll then walk past Aaron Burr’s former townhouse, hidden on a quiet street, once owned by the man who changed American history with a single shot.
Just around the corner is the boarding house where Louisa Schuyler — a member of the extended Hamilton family — provided support to injured Union soldiers during the Civil War. You'll also see Burr’s personal horse stables, offering a rare glimpse into the daily life of one of the Founding Fathers’ most controversial figures.
Along the way, you'll view rare photographs of the Weehawken Dueling Grounds — the now-quiet bluff across the river where the deadly encounter took place.
The journey continues downtown in the Financial District, beginning at Federal Hall, the birthplace of American government. Here, you’ll learn how both Hamilton and Burr walked these very steps as they helped shape the foundations of the new republic.
From there, you’ll make your way to Trinity Church, the final resting place of Alexander Hamilton, his beloved wife Eliza, and their son Philip — each lost under tragic circumstances. This solemn and powerful site marks the official end of the tour.
For guests who wish to continue exploring, Fraunces Tavern is just a short walk away. This historic tavern is where Hamilton and Burr shared their final meal before the duel — a fitting optional stop to reflect on the story you’ve just walked through.
This tour blends rich storytelling with little-known historical details, bringing to life the rivalry, ambition, and honor that defined two of America’s most complex founders. Perfect for history buffs, Broadway fans of Hamilton, or anyone curious about the true story behind “the ten-dollar Founding Father without a father.”
